Italy – Sicily, Milan, & Lake Como

In the Summer of 2023 we decided to take a trip to Italy. Last time I was in Italy was in the year 2010. I forgot just how amazing Italy was. This time I decided to skip Rome and instead visit the southern part and the northern part.

My trip took me first to Cefalu, Sicily. Our first hotel was located right in town. We were walking distance from all the beautiful beaches and amazing restaurants.

After a few days in town we decided to move to a hotel with a few more amenities. This hotel was a bit outside of the town and required a 5 minute drive to get to the beaches. The hotel itself had a pool, amazing food, and not to mention the view from our room was incredible. Bonus our room had a hot tub!

After about a week in Sicily we flew north to Milan. We rented a car and spent a few hours in the city to see the amazing Duomo. In addition to the Duomo you can stroll about the square and the shops.

After a few hours exploring the Duomo and shops we headed off to Lake Como. The drive to Lake Como was windy and fun (if only I was driving a porche). Lake Como consists of a few different small lake towns. Belagio was the more well known and popular town on the lake, so we decided to make a pit stop for some lunch there to check it out. The fresh made pasta we had was amazing. Our B&B was in the slightly less touristy town of Varenna.

From Belaggio we headed to Varenna, where we were staying. The fastest way to get from place to place in Lake Como is by ferry. We drove our tiny car onto the ferry and set sail. Once we docked we drove off and headed to our B&B. Our time in Varenna was spent very casually exploring the town, eating the great food and walking around to see the sites. We even bought fresh ingredients home and had a delicious Italian dinner we cooked ourselves.

On our last day ion Lake Como we rented a motor boat and cruised up and down the lake for a few hours checking out the other towns and big celebrity houses. I had this planned for a few days earlier, but it was delayed a few days due to the radar showing weather, only the ferries were permitted to operate the whole time we were there, but we got lucky on the last day, and were able to get out on to the lake before heading to the airport.

After our tour around the lake, we rushed to the airport to make our flight home, it was a bit stressful squeezing the boat in that morning, but well worth it. The boat ride was my favorite memory of Lake Como. If you have a chance to come here do not pass it up. Thank you for stopping by, and as always Saif Travels!
